The Zebra is expanding its Applied AI team and seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack Software Engineer. This role involves working across the tech stack, including frontend and backend web development, data pipelines, and leveraging LLMs for internal and consumer-facing applications. You will contribute to both experimental, rapid-prototyping projects and the development of long-term, scalable solutions. While our headquarters are in Austin, TX, we support remote employees across the US. For those near Austin, we offer the flexibility of in-office or hybrid work arrangements. Please note: We are unable to hire in California or Massachusetts at this time.What You'll Do
- Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of The Zebra comparison product and other products using Python, Django, FastAPI, GraphQL, ReactJS, and other modern technologies.
- Deliver focused, maintainable, and performant code across various business areas, from enhancing existing cloud-hosted microservices to developing new features for growth into new insurance lines.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and engineering leadership to rapidly build, iterate, test, and deploy new features and products, while maintaining a high-quality, robust codebase.
- Improve and scale existing products and tools to support our growth.
- Act as a technical leader for the team, mentoring and growing other engineers through example.
What We're Looking For
We seek individuals with a strong sense of ownership, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.- 5+ years of professional programming experience.
- Demonstrated ability in HTML/CSS and JavaScript, with a focus on React applications.
- Strong understanding and experience with Python, Ruby, Java, C++, C#, or Go (Python preferred).
- Significant experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Proficiency with the Linux/Unix command line.
- Exceptional and proven web development experience.
- Eagerness to take ownership of work, including collaboration throughout the product development lifecycle.
- A track record of delivering quality code in a timely fashion, understanding the balance between "good enough" and "flawless."
Experience That Will Impress The Heck Out Of Us
- Experience with consumer-facing web products, growth-phase startups, and/or using A/B testing and data to drive product decisions.
- Experience with Django, AWS, React, microservice architectures, and web API design.
- Experience using AI tools for development.
- Experience developing software that leverages LLMs and creating datasets for ML/AI applications.
