Position Overview
The BMS Technical Specialist at The University of British Columbia supports the overall operation, maintenance, and improvement of the computer-based Building Management System (BMS) used for controlling HVAC and other building systems at the UBC Vancouver Campus. Reporting to the Manager, BMS, the specialist works closely with Energy Conservation teams and other technical staff to ensure efficient, effective, and sustainable building operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee BMS operation and maintenance including hardware, software, and network devices.
- Review and develop energy management and HVAC control programs.
- Collaborate on energy conservation plans and long-range energy efficiency projects.
- Coordinate projects from design to commissioning for system upgrades and expansion.
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, and users and provide training and diagnostic support.
- Prepare reports, budget outlines, and project documentation for BMS initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a relevant undergraduate degree, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with six or more years of experience in building automation systems. Strong technical skills in computer networks, direct digital controls, and HVAC systems are required, along with proficiency in Windows-based applications and technical report writing.
