Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to focus on Database Infrastructure tasks. This role involves automating daily tasks, performance testing new SQL Server updates, and setting up alerting and log extraction for monitoring. You will collaborate closely with our engineering team to ensure aligned execution of database-related activities, including investigating database issues, maintaining databases, evaluating best practices, and automating tooling to ensure high availability and optimal performance across our platform.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Automate tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, Ansible, Chef, and other relevant tools.
  • Bring a strong DevOps perspective to all database operations.
  • Provide day-to-day support and maintenance for Microsoft SQL Server 2019/2022 databases crucial for our platform.
  • Handle administration, analysis, support, proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, recoverability, failover, security, installation, and design of databases.
  • Investigate and resolve potential problems and issues reported by users.
  • Troubleshoot challenging performance issues and develop proactive measures and trend analysis.
  • Monitor database events and continuously optimize system performance through troubleshooting and tuning.
  • Work with engineering teams to automate reactive procedures, promoting rapid response to database issues.
  • Design and develop proactive tools and measures to optimize performance and scale our platform.
  • Maintain database configurations in compliance with established best practices.
  • Design and implement systems, policies, and procedures for backup and disaster recovery.
  • Monitor ongoing capacity and implement design and architecture changes to improve global availability.
  • Install upgrades and patches to existing database servers.
  • Design and develop database code as needed.
  • Review and establish robust database migration processes.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as part of a follow-the-sun team.

What You Bring to the Table

  • 5+ years of Database Administration experience supporting mission-critical relational databases.
  • Considerable experience and knowledge of MSSQL 2019 or above and best practices, with extensive experience in DB Infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with OLTP Database Environments.
  • Proficiency with T-SQL, PowerShell (Python is a plus).
  • Experience with distributed systems OLTP/DW MPP is a big plus, but not required.
  • Programming experience with C#/.NET is a big plus, but not required.
  • Experience configuring and administering MSSQL replication, Availability Groups, and Distributed Availability Groups.
  • AWS Database Management, OLAP experience, and PostgresSQL experience are pluses, but not required.
  • Full systems lifecycle experience (from requirements gathering to delivery) of database projects.
  • Experience designing, building, installing, configuring, supporting, and maintaining high-volume, large database systems.
  • Top-notch troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with database design and management aspects for various compliance programs, such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) or PCI, is a big plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to document complex technical problems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment across different time zones, as well as independently with limited supervision.
