Custodian
The Salvation Army Belleville Corps is seeking a dedicated Custodian to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of our building and grounds.
Essential Functions
- Perform comprehensive housekeeping duties including dusting, window washing, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, vacuuming, carpet care, and floor maintenance (sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping, waxing).
- Assist with preventive maintenance on HVAC systems by changing filters and performing minor building repairs.
- Replace burned-out light bulbs in interior and exterior fixtures.
- Maintain Corps grounds with tasks such as yard work, trash removal, snow removal, lawn mowing, and minor outdoor repairs.
- Note and report any major building repairs needed.
- Ensure the janitorial room is kept tidy and assist with maintaining an up-to-date inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
Education and Experience
Candidates should possess a High School Diploma or GED, with at least one year of related work experience. A combination of training and experience will be considered. The ability to read and comprehend job descriptions, cleaning instructions, and material safety data sheets is essential. Basic communication skills are required to interact effectively with visitors and employees. A valid Class E driver's license and successful completion of The Salvation Army MVR check are necessary.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
This role requires the ability to frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds, often using a dolly, cart, or truck for heavier items. Most lifting will be from floor to waist height, with some lighter lifting required above shoulder height. The job involves frequent bending, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, carrying, and pushing/pulling. Occasional ladder climbing is necessary for tasks like replacing light bulbs. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors, requiring tolerance for varying temperatures.
