Food Bank Worker at The Salvation Army in Canada

Position Purpose Summary

The Food Bank Worker provides support to the food bank program provided by Brantford Community Church.

Accountabilities

Food Bank
  • Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of food for the Food Bank program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area; if needed, assist with food drives.
  • Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Receive phone calls for food bank intake.
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
  • Recruit, support, assist, and train food bank volunteers by demonstrating work methods and ensuring they work together to achieve the purpose of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army.
  • May assist with other Community and Social Services (CS) programming or intake responsibilities when needed.
Health and Safety
  • Adherence to all health and safety standards.
  • Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in regard to organization, appearance, maintenance, general cleanliness, and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required, in collaboration with Corps Officer.

Working Conditions

This is a temporary part-time position based on 30 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Ability to lift/move more than 25 lbs. and this job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently; working in a standing position for long periods of time. The working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions. Your supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule. Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification when dealing with clients.

Normal hours of work: The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

  • Completion of Secondary School.
  • Ability and/or willingness to provide or obtain valid Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • Must possess a valid Class G- class driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion if required.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification would be an asset.

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
