The Role of an Editorial Officer

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians is seeking a capable, systems-savvy Editorial Officer at 0.8FTE to support the Internal Medicine Journal (IMJ) and the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health (JPCH). This is not a passive admin role; it sits at the operational core of scholarly publishing, supporting editors, authors, and reviewers to move high-quality research from submission to publication efficiently and professionally.

If you enjoy working with digital platforms, managing complex workflows, and delivering precision under deadline, this role offers real responsibility and impact.

Working within the Marketing & Communications team and alongside the IMJ and JPCH Editorial Managers, you will manage day-to-day publishing operations across two journals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage manuscript workflows and author/reviewer data in Research Exchange (ReX)
  • Configure and optimise system processes and email templates
  • Produce reporting and performance data from ReX
  • Support editorial board meetings and teleconferences
  • Coordinate logistics including editor travel
  • Maintain accurate records and database updates
  • Contribute to process improvement across both journals

You will balance competing priorities, troubleshoot independently, and maintain accuracy even when timelines tighten.

Desired Skills And Experience

What We’re Looking For: You are organised, digitally confident and proactive.

You Bring:

  • Experience working with web-based systems or publishing platforms
  • Strong data management and reporting capability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office and Adobe skills
  • The ability to prioritise, problem-solve and work with minimal supervision
  • A calm, professional manner when supporting senior stakeholders

Experience with Research Exchange (ReX) or other peer review systems will be highly regarded. Experience in health, education or academic publishing environments is an advantage.

Why This Role?

  • Work with leading clinicians and editors across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Contribute to journals with international readership and clinical impact
  • Join a collaborative, high-performing communications team
  • Sydney-based position in a purpose-driven organisation

This is a role for someone who enjoys structure, systems and precision, and takes pride in making complex publishing operations run seamlessly.

To Apply for the role, please submit your cover letter and CV by 8 March 2026. For further information, email recruitment@racp.edu.au.
