Job Description

About the Senior UX/UI Design Lead Role at The RealReal

As a Senior User Experience (UX/UI) Design Lead at The RealReal, you will be a design leader on our team of designers and researchers. This role focuses on empathizing with and advocating for our internal users and external customers, connecting insights to design strategy, and creating new digital interactions and experiences across our web and mobile platforms. You will primarily design proprietary operations interfaces, AI-powered pricing tools, and merchandising tools to enable our organization to deliver an excellent experience, driving value and efficiency for our business and ultimately for our consignors and buyers.

Our designers participate in all parts of the design process, from fielding design research, to shaping strategy, to generating divergent options, prototyping, and iterating based on user and stakeholder feedback. As a senior member of the team, you are expected to drive the end-to-end design process, from crafting the right design brief in partnership with product, engineering, and stakeholders, all the way to handing off pixel-perfect screens for testing and iteration post-production.

We are looking for curious individuals who are divergent thinkers and confident collaborators. You will seek to understand the 'why' behind what our customers think, say, feel, and do to get inspired, taking the initiative to explore and visualize what this could mean for our product. You’ll work with partners and stakeholders from across the company, telling the real stories behind your work to drive consensus, ship meaningful products, and amplify the role of human-centered design within the company.

What You Get To Do Everyday

  • Drive end-to-end product and feature design for your squads.
  • Collaborate with research to design studies, gaining empathy for users’ unmet needs, desires, and aspirations (current and future).
  • Turn insights into actionable strategy to guide your work (e.g., using segmentation, personas, and insights to define a design space; creating customer journey maps where necessary; developing design principles or other frameworks to organize solutioning).
  • Draw interfaces and make prototypes that are informed by customer insights (from pen and paper to interactive prototypes).
  • Share your work with end users, the design team, Product & Tech collaborators, and business stakeholders to get feedback, learn, and iterate.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to bring your work to market.
  • Explore and adopt AI tools and new methods that will help us accelerate our workflows and raise the level of quality of our digital experience.

What You Bring To The Role

Minimum Requirements:
  • 7+ years of experience in UX Design, UI Design, Systems design, Interaction Design, Product Design, or similar.
  • Experience with human-centered design process, starting with user insights, ideating, prototyping, and iterating based on user feedback.
  • Interaction design where you’ve made things that are discoverable, comfortable, and give good feedback, with attention to how everything responds before, during, and after.
  • 2D interactive prototyping where people can try things with taps, swipes, or clicks.
  • Portfolio demonstrating a range of work, from developing new-to-the-world products/experiences to refining things that already exist (can include work that has and has not shipped).
  • Experience designing interfaces across mobile apps and websites, with a bonus if you’ve designed for and with AI tools.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%.
