Job Description

About The New York Times

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. This means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

About The Role, Mission Or Department Overview

The New York Times is looking for a Technical Education Analyst to join our Technical Enablement team. You will focus on technical enablement and new technology, helping our global workforce navigate and adopt critical enterprise tools. You will be a liaison for projects—such as Generative AI—translating complex system updates into clear, relevant documentation and training. Our goal is to build a culture of technical literacy where every member of the staff feels empowered to use the latest company technology. This is a hybrid role based in New York City, with the expectation to come into the office on a semi-regular basis to meet with employees for in-person 1:1 and group training sessions.

Who Are We?

The mission of the Technical Enablement team is to ensure that technology serves as a bridge, not a barrier, to the mission of The New York Times. We focus on building relationships across the newsroom, technology, and business teams to provide the education and documentation necessary to adopt new tools with confidence and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with employees across the organization, including the newsroom and business side, to provide one-on-one and group technical training sessions.
  • Partner with technical leads to translate new enterprise infrastructure and tools into accessible training modules and "how-to" guides.
  • Organize and facilitate technical workshops, office hours, and events centered on new technology.
  • Develop instructional materials such as guides, handbooks, videos, and web-based tutorials to improve the rollout of new software.
  • Develop targeted or company-wide communications on technical updates and coordinate distribution with the corporate communications team.
  • Perform administrative responsibilities necessary to schedule, deliver, and document training projects.
  • Monitor employee engagement with technical education programs and knowledge retention, identifying common pain points to improve the user experience.
  • Travel to different office locations and bureaus to give group and one-on-one training sessions, encompassing about 10% of the year.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience training on topics related to enterprise technology, software adoption, or technical enablement.
  • Technical writing skills, with experience with making complex technical practices feel simple and intuitive.
  • A curiosity and functional understanding of Generative AI tools and their practical applications within an organization.
  • Break down complex topics and communicate to several communities, including different nationalities and international locations.
  • Experience creating and integrating digital technology such as audio, video, and web-based tutorials into learning paths.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and adjusting technical content based on audience response.
  • Excellent oral, written, and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking in developing engaging training and learning materials across multiple formats, including user guides and gamified learning elements to enhance engagement and retention.
  • Basic data analysis skills with the ability to track training effectiveness, measure user adoption, and use metrics to inform continuous improvement.
  • Experience delivering training both in person and virtually, utilizing platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom to support diverse learning environments.
  • Real passion for The New York Times's mission and dedication to be part of our innovation and growth.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the backend of Generative AI tools to help staff understand what "usage" actually is in practice.
  • Experience with Zendesk or working in a support environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Google Suite.
  • Experience working with journalists or other specialized groups with unique technical workflows.
