Overview
Do you love books and the performing arts? The New York Public Library has been an essential provider of free books, information, ideas and education for all New Yorkers for over 100 years. The Library Page position offers exposure to a library system and an opportunity to explore a career in libraries. Candidates will gain knowledge, practical experience and access to the Library Page Fellowship Program, which includes on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Retrieve, shelve and arrange library materials alphabetically and numerically.
- Provide exceptional customer service and a positive attitude.
- Assist patrons with basic computer, internet and A/V equipment usage.
- Locate and prepare library materials upon request.
- Help set up public spaces for events and library programs.
- Support staff in managing research and circulating materials.
- Perform additional related tasks as needed.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited school and, if under 18, hold a proper employment certificate as required by NYS law. The role demands strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills along with a reliable work ethic. Familiarity with basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications) and troubleshooting basic technical issues is preferred.
Additional Details
- Schedule: 18 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays.
- Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (up to 25 lbs) and pushing book trucks.
