About the Role

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is seeking an Assistant Director for its Affiliate Programs. This role is crucial for developing strategy, driving revenue, and enhancing donor engagement for MoMA’s key donor groups, including the David Rockefeller Council, the Contemporary Arts Council, the Black Arts Council, and the Young Patrons Council. The ultimate goal is to increase overall revenue and advance members to higher levels of support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of four development officers in cultivating over 750 donors across MoMA’s Affiliate Groups.
  • Manage and achieve a multi-million dollar annual revenue goal from membership dues, endowments, individual gifts, and benefit events.
  • Steward and grow an individual portfolio of 100+ individual donors for operating support, exhibition/program funding, and acquisitions.
  • Collaborate with the Research department to develop a prospect pipeline.
  • Mentor staff and foster a high-performance culture for professional growth.
  • Expand membership across all Affiliate Groups, focusing on diverse, inter-generational donors and communities.
  • Implement revenue-generating strategies such as dues increases, endowment campaigns, and fundraising events.
  • Deliver accurate and effective executive reporting, goal setting, and data sharing.
  • Work closely with senior leadership, including the Chief of Philanthropy, Chief Curators, Board Leadership, and Trustees, to execute priority initiatives.
  • Provide strategic counsel and implement best practices regarding key acquisition funds with Trustee Chairs and curators.
  • Manage capital campaign endowments and coordinate stewardship plans for campaign donors.
  • Plan and collaborate on international fundraising trips and lead international strategy initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in fundraising and development.
  • Significant frontline and in-person solicitation experience required.
  • Experience managing high-net-worth individual donor portfolios.
  • Supervisory/managerial experience is essential.
  • Demonstrated success in generating multi-million dollar annual revenue.
  • Proven leadership in managing and mentoring diverse fundraising teams.
  • Exceptional diplomatic and communication skills, with experience in executive reporting.
  • Experience in strategic international fundraising and international program development.
  • Deep knowledge of and networks within the art world.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends as required.
  • Familiarity with art acquisitions and acquisition committees.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or other donor-management systems.
