About the Role

The Meaning Company / Michael Levin Books is a mission-driven publishing and media venture focused on big questions related to purpose, identity, faith, culture, ambition, and modern life. We are looking for a sharp and detail-obsessed Copyeditor to help polish a slate of nonfiction books.

Responsibilities

• Copyedit full-length nonfiction manuscripts for clarity, structure, tone, grammar, and consistency.
• Ensure voice alignment across complex and idea-driven work.
• Flag logical gaps, redundancies, or structural inconsistencies.
• Maintain style consistency (Chicago Manual preferred).
• Collaborate closely with authors and the editorial team.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication-ready submission.

What We’re Looking For

Applicants should have 5+ years of professional copyediting experience ideally with nonfiction books. A strong command of grammar, syntax, and Chicago style is essential. Experience with memoir, philosophy, psychology, religion, and cultural commentary is a plus. The candidate must be highly organized, responsive, and comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment with strong editorial judgment.

• Compensation: $35–$40/hour DOE
• Hours: 30–35 hours per week
• Contract: 1099 with paid time off
