The Opportunity: Summer Student, Research IT
SickKids' Research Institute is seeking a Summer Student to join our Research IT Department.
In this role, you will be immersed in a diverse IT environment that spans across a broad range of platforms, products, and services. You'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with project management and learn about important IT service management concepts. You will work with seasoned technology professionals and will be mentored by one of our Team Leads. Daily responsibilities will range from answering support requests, analyzing issues, conducting software testing, to supporting communications and implementation activities.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
- Provide support to the SickKids research community across multiple research applications and IT services
- Answer support tickets, escalating major issues to senior team members
- Assist with the design of projects in a data capture platform (e.g., REDCap) by supporting consultations with research teams and helping translate study requirements into configured solutions
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of knowledge base articles, user guides, and end-user training materials to support applications and services

Essential Requirements
- Current registration as a student in a recognized college or university on a full-time basis and planning to continue full-time studies in the fall. Full-time attendance is defined as registration as a minimum of 60% of the normal course load.
- Ability to learn and work with new technologies and applications
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide superb customer service
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Dependability and good attendance
- Understand importance and demonstrates ability to foster a culture of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
You Should Highlight If You Have
- Previous experience in an IT or technology environment
Employment Type
- Temporary, Full-Time (4-month contract)
- 35-hour work week
- You can expect a hybrid work environment with some flexibility to work from home. We aim to maximize onsite presence for collaborative work and prefer candidates that are willing to commute to the SickKids campus in downtown Toronto a minimum of 3 days per week.
