What You'll Get To Do as a Communications Student

Reporting to the Manager, Communications (Research Institute & Strategic Initiatives), the Communications Student will support the Communications and Public Affairs team in creating clear and engaging content for SickKids' internal and external channels for Research Institute and research-related communications. Your role in Research Communications includes writing web and intranet stories, social media content, web and newsletter content, conducting interviews with staff, assisting with media or funder shoots or events, and supporting the execution of communication plans.

What You'll Need

  • Recently completed (or completing) a diploma or bachelor's degree (or higher) in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience developing content in support of communications plans (such as drafting stories, social media copy, newsletter and web content, print/digital signage content) and tailoring that content for different platforms.
  • Detail oriented, with strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in science communications or background in science is an asset. Experience in health care, hospital, or academic environment is preferred.
  • Photography and video skills and knowledge of design tools like Canva are an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.

Internship Details

  • Work Location: On site and hybrid-flexible
  • Contract Length: May-August 2026
  • Hours: 9 to 5 p.m., 35 hours/week
