Job Description
Position Purpose
The IT Project Manager Disaster Recovery (ITPM) is an integral part of The Home Depot's (THD) ePMO team, playing a lead role in the successful delivery of projects. This position focuses on providing effective project management and delivery for IT initiatives, requiring a clear understanding of various methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, Agile, XP). The ITPM may also oversee resources such as Project Analysts. Proficiency in project management tools, creating project plans, managing financials, controlling change, assessing risks and issues, and developing mitigation plans is essential, along with effective communication to upper management. Furthermore, the ITPM will collaborate with cross-functional end-user groups, business partners, vendors, development groups, architects, and service managers to ensure successful project implementations. This role typically manages a single high-complexity initiative or multiple low to medium-complexity projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning (20%): Responsible for defining the implementation strategy, project scope, and adhering to THD's compliance toll gate artifacts (e.g., Charter, Business Acceptance Document). This includes defining project-specific deliverables, creating a logical work breakdown structure, and defining major project milestones.
- Project Financials (20%): Instrumental in creating a project Cost Benefit Analysis to determine project viability and justification. This role is responsible for labor and hard capital project forecasting and updating THD's financial system.
- Project Control (15%): Leads the development of effective plans for controlling project scope, schedule, and cost baseline, and monitors project execution to ensure adherence. Documents and explains changes to the baseline, drives the approval process, and ensures approved changes are implemented.
- Project Communications (15%): Develops or approves an effective plan for communicating program information to project stakeholders. Creates and approves written status reports, highlighting any potential schedule, resource, and cost issues. If necessary, creates store communication regarding project deployments.
- Project Risk and Issue Management (15%): Leads the definition of project risks and the required mitigation approaches. Monitors project activities for risks and takes timely action to mitigate them. Advises project team members, stakeholders, and senior management of actions required or completed.
- Project Closeout (15%): Ensures lessons learned are documented and applied to subsequent projects. Responsible for ensuring all invoices have been paid and that updates are made to THD's internal system showing that the project is closed.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports
This position typically reports to a Senior Project Manager or Program Manager and has no direct reports.
Travel Requirements
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about. Rarely, there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions
Located in a comfortable indoor area, with infrequent and non-objectionable unpleasant conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience.
- The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-10 years of related experience.
- Experience with Agile Methodology (Sprint Planning, Backlog Grooming, Facilitating Retros).
- Working knowledge of Jira, Jira Align, Kanban, Confluence.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of Tableau.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to draw accurate conclusions from financial documentation.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with the planning and execution of projects and risk mitigation strategies.
- Experience with project management execution in a modern software environment; experience managing technical projects.
- Bachelor's degree, MS a plus or equivalent (e.g., CPA, PE, etc.).
- PMP certification.
- MS Project and office tools.
