In your role as Grassland Carbon Analyst, you will be an integral part of a small and highly motivated team of experts passionate about the role of natural climate solutions in combating climate change. As a small and nimble organization in a rapidly evolving market, your ideas as well as your technical expertise will be highly valued.

Job Summary
To provide analytical expertise to support The Climate Trust’s grassland project development, origination, and management. This role will also support the management of The Climate Trust’s offset project portfolio.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Grassland Carbon Project Analysis and Development
- Apply technical expertise to assist with and conduct grassland carbon project feasibility assessments.
- Assess historical imagery and satellite data to understand previous land use trends.
- Conduct analysis using ArcGIS.
- Synthesize maps, spreadsheets, and documents to review with TCT project staff.
- Organize and maintain TCTs online server for storing project data.
- Work with project partners to collect data and prepare documents needed for ongoing monitoring and management.
- Assist with third-party verification processes for developed projects.
- Track TCT’s carbon offset project portfolio after initial development to ensure delivery timelines are met.
Provide Technical Expertise to Support Project Innovation and Development
- Conduct research to recognize challenges, opportunities, and risks of implementing pilot projects.
- Evaluate nascent carbon offset protocols and report back on findings.
- Work with TCT project staff to expand partnerships and network with new organizations to facilitate new project development.
- Participate in working groups for protocol development and updates.
Support the Management of The Climate Trust’s Offset Portfolio
- Work with program staff to evaluate new offset projects for potential offset purchase.
- Maintain a level of expertise in compliance and voluntary markets.
- Stay informed of changes to regulations, market trends, and initiatives.
- Assist in responding to offset sales RFPs and generating content such as project descriptions to support the sales process.
Knowledge and Skills Needed to Perform This Role
- Experience reading and translating technical and quantitative documents, like carbon offset protocols.
- Comfort with ArcGIS spatial analysis and vector datasets.
- Knowledge of grassland ecology, soil science, and carbon cycling preferred.
- High level of comfort in Microsoft Excel to gather, aggregate, and calculate data.
- Knowledge and excitement about carbon offset markets, greenhouse gas measurement and monitoring.
- BS in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Rangeland Ecology or related field required.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Strong Excel, database (CRM), and quantitative skills.
- Must be highly collaborative, accountable, and self-motivated.
- Ability to work at a computer for long stretches.
- Strong writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
