Position Overview

The City University of New York School of Law is seeking a highly qualified and innovative candidate for the role of Law School Executive Director of Bar Preparation and Licensing Programs. This role is integral in preparing law students for licensure and ensuring high-quality bar exam results.

Role Responsibilities

  • Administer bar support and training programs for full-time and part-time graduating law students.
  • Train and supervise faculty and adjunct instructors for bar preparation courses.
  • Oversee the bar mentor program and recruitment/training of bar graders.
  • Incorporate state and judicial requirements in program curricula.
  • Develop and implement emerging strategies and methodologies for bar preparation.
  • Manage budget, operations, and procurement related to the program.

Detailed Duties

  • Prepare and oversee implementation of plans, budgets, and reports to assess program success.
  • Design curriculum for the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) and New York-specific examination requirements.
  • Train faculty in CORE Doctrine, Applied Legal Analysis, and bar-specific teaching methods.
  • Supervise the Bar Mentor Program and develop preparation methodologies for part-time students.
  • Coordinate with academic support units to align exam writing methodologies.
  • Implement New York State licensing requirements including character, fitness, and pro bono obligations.
  • Keep current on emerging pedagogies for bar exam preparation; provide instruction as needed.

Work Arrangement & Schedule

This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 80% in-person presence on campus, with potential for more based on departmental needs. Occasional evenings and weekends are required.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree
  • At least eight years of related experience with law school teaching and bar preparation.
  • Knowledge of legal writing and innovative law school curricula.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in multi-racial and multicultural institutions preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary ranges from $157,000 to $165,000, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include a range of health plans, competitive retirement/pension benefits, tuition waivers for CUNY graduate study, generous paid time off, and access to various campus programs.
