About the Summer Construction Intern Role
We are seeking Summer Construction Interns to join our project teams. This entry-level position is ideal for current students pursuing a degree related to Construction, offering a pathway into Project Management, Superintendent, or Preconstruction roles. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in various construction facets, contributing in capacities similar to an entry-level Project Engineer, Assistant Superintendent, or Estimator. Your primary responsibilities will include supporting your project team with administration, field engineering, field supervision, and documentation, encompassing material procurement, identifying subcontract scope gaps, quality management, and punch list maintenance. This is a paid internship with an expected 40-hour work week.
Intern Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Interpret, coordinate, and maintain construction drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
- Assist in developing and maintaining Submittal Logs, Specification Logs, RFI logs and responses, meeting minutes, and as-built drawings.
- Learn to effectively review and expedite shop drawings and submittals.
- Assist in updating the project schedule.
- Utilize Project Management software.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors.
- Assist in acquiring project closeout documentation.
- Enforce OSHA and Beck safety standards and policies, including conducting site-specific safety orientations and regular safety inspections.
- Follow direction, collaborate with all team members, and complete assigned tasks.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for individuals eager to learn and be mentored by experienced Project Management and Field Supervision staff. A proactive approach to problem-solving, unwavering integrity, effective time management skills, and a strong drive to accomplish tasks are essential. Candidates with an interest in integrated project delivery methods and innovation in process improvement and technology will be an excellent fit.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Construction or a related field is preferred.
- High school students with a strong interest in construction may be considered.
- Previous internships in architectural, engineering, or commercial construction are a plus but not required.
- Fundamental understanding of project documents.
- Experience with Excel, Bluebeam, and Revit or comparable construction technologies is beneficial.
Physical Demands
This role requires frequent computer operation and occasional use of ladders and stairs. You will work in various outdoor weather conditions, frequently move equipment up to 50 lbs on-site, and constantly communicate with project team members. Consistent and timely attendance is expected, along with the ability to move around the job site effectively.
