About the Role
The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University is seeking a Principal High Energy Laser Engineer to join its Electro-Optics and Electronics Division. This role involves leading the development, integration, and evaluation of high power laser systems and sensors to enhance warfighter capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead high power laser systems and sensor development.
- Engineer electro-optic and infrared system solutions.
- Develop proposals and secure project sponsorships.
- Collaborate with internal teams, manufacturers, and government sponsors.
- Present research findings at conferences and publish in journals.
Required Skills and Experience
- Expertise in high energy laser system development, hardware, software and signal processing.
- Experience with electro-optical and infrared technologies.
- Knowledge of DoD acquisition and sustainment programs.
- Proven leadership and collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in defense manufacturing and industrial base support.
- Active government security clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI.
Additional Details
This position is fully remote in the Washington, D.C. area. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and capable of obtaining a government security clearance. The role includes competitive salary and benefits with a salary range from $123,200 to $219,600 and a strong benefits package.
