Job Description

AI Safety & Policy Research Adviser at TexkLab

We are seeking experienced AI researchers to volunteer as AI Research Advisers & Mentors supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds across Africa who are passionate about:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Machine Learning
  • Deep Learning
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Computer Vision
  • Human–Computer Interaction
  • AI Policy and Governance

This role focuses on guiding students on how to conduct rigorous AI research and navigate academic publishing.

What You’ll Do

  • Hold at least one virtual mentorship session per month
  • Guide mentees in:
    • Identifying research questions
    • Conducting literature reviews
    • Designing experiments
    • Writing research papers
    • Preparing submissions to top AI venues
  • Provide academic and career guidance (PhD pathways, research careers, etc.)
  • Promote ethical and responsible AI research

Minimum Qualifications

  • ✔ PhD, PhD candidate, or equivalent research experience in Computer Science, AI, or related fields (Education, Psychology, Social Science, Law, Economics)
  • ✔ Proven research publications in top AI venues such as:
    • Conferences: Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS), International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR), Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI)
    • Journals: IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, Nature Machine Intelligence, Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR)
  • ✔ Availability for at least one online session per month
