AI Research Adviser & Mentor

AI Research Adviser & Mentor at TexkLab

We are seeking experienced AI researchers to volunteer as AI Research Advisers & Mentors, supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds across Africa who are passionate about a range of cutting-edge fields. This critical role focuses on guiding students on how to conduct rigorous AI research and successfully navigate academic publishing.

Students are focused on:

• Artificial Intelligence
• Machine Learning
• Deep Learning
• Natural Language Processing
• Computer Vision
• Human–Computer Interaction
• AI Policy and Governance

What You’ll Do

As an AI Research Adviser & Mentor, you will hold at least one virtual mentorship session per month. Your guidance will be instrumental in helping mentees to:

• Identifying research questions
• Conducting literature reviews
• Designing experiments
• Writing research papers
• Preparing submissions to top AI venues

Additionally, you will provide essential academic and career guidance, covering aspects like PhD pathways and research careers, while actively promoting ethical and responsible AI research practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD, PhD candidate, or equivalent research experience in Computer Science, AI, or related fields
• Proven research publications in top AI venues such as:
  • Conferences: Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS), International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR), Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI)
  • Journals: IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, Nature Machine Intelligence, Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR)
• Availability for at least one online session per month
