Registered Pharmacist - North Austin Location

Texas Oncology is seeking a dedicated Registered Pharmacist to support our North Austin facility. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, with no weekend, call, or major holiday responsibilities. The hiring level, either Level 1 or Level 2, will be determined by the candidate's experience.

Pharmacist Responsibilities:

• Under minimal supervision, compounds and dispenses medications, drugs, and other pharmaceutical preparations in accordance with professional standards.
• Prepares and maintains all necessary records for prescriptions, patient charges, and inventory.
• Consults with nursing and medical staff regarding prescriptions, drug information, patient reactions, errors, and complaints.
• Implements and adheres to quality assurance and safety policies and procedures.
• Monitors compliance with all legal regulations and accreditation standards.
• Supports and upholds the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
• Prepares and dispenses medication orders, maintaining and evaluating patient profiles and drug data files for incompatibilities.
• Verifies patient information, physician authorization, and insurance approval for all orders.
• Admixes drugs accurately and timely per department, OSHA, and interoffice guidelines.
• Ensures correct preparation of all formulas and medications, checking prescriptions for completeness.
• Calculates correct dosages and performs metric and apothecary conversions.
• Organizes and directs pharmacy technician workflow, verifying their preparation, labeling, order entries, charges, and inspections.
• Provides pharmacological information and drug counseling to healthcare professionals and patients, addressing potential side effects and food/alcohol interactions.
• Ensures adherence to all legal and professional requirements, including controlled substances.
• Consults with patients to assess medication compatibility based on pre-existing conditions.
• Instructs patients on medication effects, including interactions with food and alcohol, and potential side effects.
• Provides professional drug information and support to medical staff, participating in pharmacy teaching and in-service programs.
• Properly disposes of all materials used in mixing IVs (chemo and non-chemo) and cleans hoods daily and between admixtures.
• Logs and dates all drugs, performs monthly checks for expired medications, and maintains accurate temperature logs.
• Maintains accurate logs for protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
• Assists with inventory control, ordering, receiving, and shelving medications and supplies.
• Ensures adequate stock of standard drug supplies across all departments.
• Prepares labels, files prescriptions, and prepares billing information, including computing prices.
• Stays updated on new drug information through drug representative interactions and ongoing education.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient and medical staff information.
• Prepares reports and conducts monitoring activities as directed.

Qualifications:

Level 1

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
• Current state licensure as a Pharmacist.
• 0-3 years of experience as a registered pharmacist.
• Oncology background preferred.
• May supervise pharmacy technicians.

Level 2

• Minimum of three years of experience as a registered pharmacist.
• Preferably three years of experience in a pharmacy setting with IV skills.

Physical Demands:

This role requires a full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and the ability to read measurements. Employees will be sitting or standing for extensive periods. Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 40 lbs may be necessary. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range are required.
