Overview
The Clinical Pharmacist at Texas Health and Human Services in Austin, TX plays a vital role in managing the State Preferred Drug List (PDL) and Drug Use Review (DUR) programs. Reporting to the Pharmacist Director of DUR Formulary Management, this role involves independent judgment, extensive clinical review, and policy development to ensure safe and cost-effective medication use in various state health programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the PDL and DUR programs including drug utilization review.
- Coordinate clinical reviews for new market drugs as a subject matter expert.
- Prepare management reports and analyze pharmaceutical data.
- Provide consultative services to internal and external healthcare stakeholders.
- Assist in the administration of prescription drug programs like Medicaid, CHIP, KHC, and CSHCN.
Additional Duties
The role includes developing pharmaceutical policies, preparing criteria for DUR processes, and supporting litigation efforts by providing expert testimony and technical assistance. Collaboration with contracted entities and participation in DUR board activities are essential.

Qualifications
A valid Texas pharmacy license in good standing is required. Graduation from an ACPE accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor’s or PharmD is mandatory. Managed Care Pharmacy Experience is preferred.
Work Environment & Additional Information
This full-time, exempt position is located in Austin, TX with minimal telework and up to 5% travel. It supports various state health programs and carries comprehensive employee benefits.
