Technical Writer, Data Center Manufacturing at Tesla
Tesla is looking for an experienced Technical Writer to join our Data Center Manufacturing team. You will collaborate with engineers and other technical writers to document manufacturing processes and equipment operations. This role is crucial for ensuring our technical documentation is completed on time and to the highest standards of excellence.
What You'll Do
- Compose instructional documents for factory topics, documenting processes step-by-step with engineers.
- Capture notes, recordings, and photographs to create Manufacturing Instructions (MIs), visual aids, training checklists, and maintenance instructions.
- Ensure adherence to Document Management Standards and Change Management Standards for ISO9001:2015 compliance.
- Work lineside to capture process details on the spot and contribute to a world-class training program.
- Potentially lead and manage a small team of Technical Writers, including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance management.
- Maintain document history, manage version control, and contribute to overall process improvement.
- Simultaneously manage multiple overlapping projects across different development programs.
What You'll Bring
- Extensive experience in industrial or manufacturing environments with expertise in technical writing.
- Proven ability to quickly capture information using notes, recordings, and photographs.
- Demonstrated excellence in digital photography, including macro features and image manipulation.
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is a plus.
- Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings is a plus.
- Ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
