Job Description

What To Expect as a Logistics Analyst

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and deeply process-oriented Logistics Analyst to join our growing supply chain team at Gigafactory Texas. In this role, you will manage critical domestic and international inbound supplier shipments in closed loops that support vehicle production in Texas and international shipping operations to other plants and service distribution centers. The ideal candidate possesses strong problem-solving skills, the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, relevant industry experience, and a willingness to go the extra mile to solve problems and protect production. This role requires perfect coordination with suppliers, carriers, and Tesla warehouses and yards to maintain a smooth flow of inbound material and outbound returns, ensuring the production line runs around the clock. You will need to be comfortable working independently and making sound decisions on short notice.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute to a worldwide logistics organization by executing operational demands, standardizing processes, and establishing SOPs. This requires negotiation and alignment with suppliers, transportation companies, and internal teams for optimal order quantity and frequency.
  • Work in TMS and several other internal platforms to support inbound production logistics for Gigafactory Texas across all modes (Air, Ocean, Ground).
  • Monitor fleet and assign pick-ups based on driver locations, understanding how the dedicated and spot network works, driving improvements to achieve efficiencies related to cost reduction and less resources utilized, and design and coordinate reverse logistics processes and operations to ensure the highest utilization of the fleet.
  • Maintain yard reporting and tracking to ensure no congestion impacts the production line and that vendors get returnable packaging back in a timely fashion to support subsequent production shipments.
  • Negotiate spot and transactional business with suppliers, monitor performance in collaboration with procurement, and provide input (such as volume forecast, carrier scorecard, customer service performance) to start RFQ/RFP processes in partnership with procurement.
  • Convert data into information or generate detailed reporting for stakeholders as requested, using SQL to retrieve data from data sources and working with BI to develop dashboards as required.
  • Coordinate the most cost-effective means to import/export goods within expected requirements and provide all required documentation (Letter of Credit, Ocean Bill of Lading, Service Report Log, etc.) for import and export functions.

What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Mathematics, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience with evidence of exceptional ability.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in high-volume manufacturing logistics, supply chain, or with a freight forwarder.
  • Knowledge of freight forwarding terms, standards, and Incoterms.
  • Proven record of successfully implementing process improvement initiatives, including cost reduction and operational efficiency gains.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, including TMS, and the ability to identify gaps and work with systems teams and leaders to introduce new functionalities that optimize processes.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Tableau, and Python (preferred).
  • PMP, APICS, Six Sigma (preferred).
