Lead Technical Programme Manager

About the role

Lead Technical Programme Managers (TPMs) at Tesco Technology deliver complex, cross-functional technology programmes that support colleagues and help serve customers better. They work collaboratively, influence Product, Engineering, Operations, and business colleagues, and lead programmes to deliver value quickly and often.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver complex programmes with multiple business and technical risks impacting key Tesco business priorities.
• Establish new or improve existing programme delivery methodologies to achieve programme goals.
• Shape programmes with ambiguous scope and uncertain delivery approaches.
• Create and track comprehensive plans, including technical implementation, ensuring all colleagues and stakeholders are updated.
• Provide expert advice and guidance on programme delivery, mentoring other TPMs and supporting Engineering/Product teams.
• Understand trade-offs in software delivery, leveraging experience and influencing skills to drive consensus for optimal value.
• Foresee potential risks and issues, establish processes, facilitate discussions, and manage escalations effectively.
• Evaluate trends and new concepts in programme and product delivery.
• Understand technical architecture to foresee impacts on dependencies, delivery timelines, and implementation plans.
• Possess strong knowledge of engineering best practices and practical infrastructure implementations.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to define annual budgetary requirements.
• Build positive relationships with suppliers and external stakeholders, holding them accountable for delivery and improvement plans.
• Support vendor selection processes, including tendering, agreeing SLAs, warranty periods, and outsourcing.
• Facilitate and support the professional development of individuals.
• Communicate clear objectives and career paths for direct reports.
• Coach peers and other roles on methodologies, programme management tools, and leadership.
• Actively participate in the recruitment process.
• Contribute to the wider TPM community.

You will need

• A proven track record in delivering technology and/or infrastructure across multiple teams and geographies.
• Experience building credible relationships and influencing senior management and leadership teams.
• Strong Project, Stakeholder, and Programme management skills.

• Exceptional reporting skills for programmes and financial forecasting.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with adaptability to changes.
