About the role
Job Summary
Acting as a medical and scientific expert, the Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will drive key initiatives in research, publications, medical education, and field intelligence between Terumo BCT and the academic medical community. This role is crucial for identifying unmet medical needs in cell collections, therapeutic apheresis, cell & gene therapy, and general apheresis topics across EMEA. The MSL will analyze literature and data to address clinical and scientific questions related to Terumo BCT's business. They will foster relationships with international thought leaders and prescribers, identify gaps in medical research, and assist the TBCT organization in defining business directions and new therapeutic areas. The MSL may also support special projects like internal/external education, publication planning, and identifying research gaps. They will provide responses to medical information requests and support organizational business direction within the therapeutic area. This includes high-level troubleshooting and procedure optimization.
Essential Duties
- Act as a mentor and trainer for junior MSLs.
- Prepare and conduct advisory boards with key thought leaders.
- Lead key symposia and internal meetings on behalf of Medical Affairs.
- Lead special assignments and act as a leader for cross-functional teams.
- Develop and maintain scientific relationships with thought leaders, professional associations, and patient advocacy groups across EMEA.
- Serve as the primary Medical Affairs contact for clinical and scientific information exchanges with healthcare professionals.
- Ensure timely submission of monitoring reports for supported studies.
- Work with investigators to provide product information during their studies.
- Conduct formal presentations on clinical, scientific, or health-economic data.
- Maintain expert knowledge in cell collections, therapeutic apheresis, cell & gene therapy, and exchange therapies.
- Support clinical sites in optimizing cell collection workflows and implementing best practices on the Spectra Optia platform.
- Develop and deliver educational programs on therapeutic erythrocyte apheresis indications.
- Support the positioning of Terumo BCT's cell therapy technologies by engaging with stakeholders across EMEA.
- Respond to customer complaints from a medical/scientific perspective in collaboration with field specialists and the quality department.
- Provide input to the commercialization team and global product marketing on product innovation and unmet medical needs.
- Participate in developing tools and resources for the medical affairs team.
- Attend national and international medical education venues, gathering and reporting field intelligence.
- Assist customers with data abstraction and publication of clinical, scientific, or operational data.
- Provide scientific support for regional and international congresses.
- Provide medical, scientific, and technical review and opinions internally.
- Respond to and track medical information requests from healthcare professionals.
- Lead and/or coordinate special projects related to building scientific and medical competencies within the organization.
- Leverage AI-powered tools and digital platforms for evidence synthesis, literature screening, and content development.
- Stay current with emerging AI and digital tools relevant to medical affairs workflows.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
- Education: Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent).
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in Medical Affairs, MSL, clinical research, or equivalent scientific role.
