Medior Business Controller - Government

At the Dutch government, financial control and political choices converge daily. Budgets, feasibility, and public accountability are constantly intertwined. You will bring clarity to this complexity. As a Medior Business Controller, you will work on one assignment at a time at a ministry or an implementing organization like UWV, Belastingdienst, or DUO, where your analysis directly influences policy and execution.

What you will do

You will operate at the intersection of policy, execution, and control. You will translate complex information into clear choices that will hold up in the boardroom and with Parliament and the Court of Audit.

  • Analyze budgets, realizations, and forecasts within programs and policy files.
  • Make the financial consequences of policy choices transparent for management and directors.
  • Prepare P&C (Planning & Control) moments and budget changes substantively.
  • Identify risks related to legality, efficiency, and feasibility.
  • Strengthen reports and dashboards for control purposes.
  • Liaise with policy teams, FEZ/control, execution, and external supervisors.

You will work with one client at a time. This allows you to take ownership and build in-depth expertise within a political-administrative context.

What we expect from you

  • 2–6 years of experience in controlling within the Dutch government, an implementing organization, or a comparable public environment.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Business Economics, or Accountancy.
  • Familiarity with the P&C cycle and public accountability.
  • Sharp analytical skills, translating figures into administrative choices.
  • Ability to maintain an overview in an environment with diverse interests.
