Role Overview: Director - Institutional Equity Trader

The Equity Sales Trading team represents institutional clients on the equity marketplace via research, trade ideas, identifying new market trends, trade orders, risk management and providing expert analysis on market conditions. This role will report to the Managing Director, Head of Canada Cash Equity Trading.

As a Director - Institutional Equity Trader, you will work on the institutional equity trading desk, responsible for client facilitation along with other investor and corporate coverage responsibilities. You will ensure positions are within approved limits while maintaining and enhancing the Bank's profile and market share. This position requires you to be fully informed on market data, economic information, key industry developments, and regulatory standards at all times to assist in maximizing profitability through sound and well-informed decisions. You will also develop and maintain contacts with market participants, generate content and ideas, and leverage the broader platform to enhance our market position. This position liaises closely with the Bank's other operations in Canada, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the U.S. to assist in meeting the Bank's objectives.

Depth & Scope of Responsibilities

  • Be fully informed on market data, economic information, key industry developments, and regulatory standards to maximize profitability through sound trading decisions.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with market participants.
  • Ensure transactions are fully documented and processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Strictly adhere personally and at a desk level to the firm's procedures.
  • Communicate bank, policy information, and strategy between the product head and relevant trading personnel.
  • Understand and align with approved Business Strategies (Strategic Business Reviews SBR's).
  • Follow Market Risk Policies and approved Trading Strategies applicable to the business.
  • Adhere to Credit Risk Policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate governance, control, and risk management behaviors in alignment with TD policies and practices.
  • Establish an environment that promotes respect for the individual employee and adheres to Bank policies.
  • Direct, train, and develop staff to enable them to meet challenges, department objectives, and achieve full potential.
  • Work with Human Resources to recruit staff with the correct level of skills and competencies.
  • Manage the performance of the global team, ensuring clear objectives and regular feedback.
  • Ensure performance appraisals are conducted in line with firm's policy and standards.
  • Provide leadership, direction, advice, and guidance to the team, maintaining high levels of integrity, motivation, and morale.
  • Maintain staff competence through appropriate training and development to address skill gaps.
  • Initiate actions to continuously improve your own and the team's skills and performance.
  • Demonstrate TD's Leadership Profile in all professional and personal activities.

Education & Experience

  • 10+ years related experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business (Accounting or Finance) or Mathematics/Economics.
  • Canadian and US equity licenses, including Series 7 and 63 licenses.
