Job Description Summary

As a Data Associate at TD Securities, you will translate intricate business requirements into practical technical data solutions. Your role involves supporting data analysis, documenting data processes, and actively collaborating on the maintenance of critical data assets. You'll provide essential business context for data initiatives and explore new methods for data utilization. Furthermore, you will contribute to documenting business processes and offer support for production data activities as required.

Customer Focus

  • Perform data analysis and assist in assessing data management requirements for specific Platforms or Journeys.
  • Articulate technical design and development details effectively to non-technical business partners.
  • Maintain foundational knowledge of upstream data through profiling, quality reporting, and metadata production.
  • Support the acquisition and ingestion of data for various initiatives.
  • Elicit, analyze, and understand business and data requirements to develop comprehensive business solutions, including data models (entity relationship diagrams, dimensional data models), ETL and business rules, data life-cycle management, governance, lineage, and metadata, all under the guidance of senior peers and managers.
  • Ensure data is maintained in compliance with enterprise data standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain ETL jobs using the Bank's standard tools, guided by senior peers and managers.
  • Provide support to development and testing teams to resolve data issues efficiently.
  • Support partners and stakeholders in interpreting and analyzing data for informed decision-making.
  • Build effective working relationships and collaborate with peers and partners on personal deliverables.
  • Provide essential data governance and availability support to maintain data integrity.

  • Consistently exercise discretion in managing correspondence, information, and all confidential matters, escalating issues when appropriate.

  • Protect the interests of the organization by identifying and managing risks, escalating non-standard, high-risk activities as necessary.
  • Conduct internal and external research projects; support the development and delivery of presentations and communications to management or broader audiences.
  • Conduct reporting and meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level, drawing conclusions and making recommendations to assess program/policy/practice effectiveness.
  • Monitor service, productivity, and assess efficiency levels within your function, implementing continuous process and performance improvements.
  • Acquire and apply expertise in the data discipline, providing guidance, assistance, and direction to others as needed.
  • Identify, recommend, and effectively execute standard practices applicable to the discipline.
  • Adhere to internal policies/procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines meticulously.
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements, assessing potential impacts.
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes aligned with risk appetite.
  • May lead work streams by acting as a project lead or subject matter expert for small-scale projects/initiatives in accordance with project management methodologies.

Breadth & Depth

  • Possess basic working knowledge of data engineering frameworks, technologies, tools, processes, patterns, and procedures.
  • Perform simple technical tasks independently, demonstrating initiative.
  • Perform moderately complex technical tasks under general supervision, showing strong learning aptitude.
  • Basic working knowledge of TD applications, systems, networks, innovation, design activities, business, organization, best practices, and standards.
  • Design and develop solutions to meet business and technical requirements; analyze, adapt, integrate, code, test, debug, and execute.
  • Utilize and evolve established patterns to solve routine problems; contribute to new patterns where necessary to drive innovation.
  • Generally reports to a Practice Lead, indicating a clear reporting structure.

Experience And / Or Education

  • Degree, Postgraduate Degree, or Technical Certificate in Data Management or a related discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering), or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL for data querying and manipulation.
  • Proficiency in Python programming concepts for data tasks.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and learn new concepts and technologies.
