Overview
TaskUs is seeking a skilled freelance writer to create clear and comprehensive annotation guidelines for AI data-labelling projects. In the role of Part-time Annotation Guidelines Writer, you will produce decision-safe instructions to ensure high-quality, consistent labels across teams with minimal oversight.
What You'll Do
You will design and author detailed, versioned guidelines that explain project purpose, define labels with precision, and provide clear examples, counter-examples, and handling of ambiguous cases. You will develop structured resources like decision trees, visual examples, and a living FAQ. Additionally, you will operate independently, becoming the subject matter expert, self-learning from project briefs and sample data.
- Design and author clear and detailed annotation guidelines.
- Create structured resources including decision trees and FAQs.
- Operate independently to scope and master project requirements.
- Collaborate with global teams to define label taxonomies and workflows.
- Implement change-management systems, version history and release notes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct discovery sessions with a global team.
- Draft guidelines outlining task purpose and precise label taxonomy.
- Detail annotation rules, priorities, and tie-breakers.
- Catalog edge cases and ambiguity handling policies.
- Provide practical guidance for annotation tools such as Labelbox or Dataloop.
- Incorporate feedback and propose improvements where needed.
What We're Looking For
You should have proven experience writing detailed guidelines for machine learning or annotation projects. Exceptional communication skills, collaboration with data scientists or subject matter experts, and the ability to work independently are essential, along with familiarity with data-labeling platforms and excellent written English.
