About the role
Software Development Engineer - AWS Infrastructure Services
AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We ensure the cloud runs smoothly by supporting all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment, guaranteeing customers continuous access to innovation.
About the Role
The AWS Data Center Engineering - BIM & AI Technologies team is at the forefront of developing the next generation of AI-powered design automation for AWS's global data center infrastructure. We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer with Building Information Modeling (BIM) expertise to architect and deliver innovative solutions that will transform how data center design documentation is created, updated, and reviewed at scale.
As an SDE II, you will lead the design and implementation of novel generative AI applications for architects, engineers, construction managers, and facility operators. You will collaborate with software engineers, applied scientists, UX designers, product managers, and industry experts to architect scalable production-ready systems. These systems will integrate BIM platforms, desktop applications, cloud services, and AI technologies to accelerate facility design workflows. This is a unique opportunity to combine your Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Ownership (AECO) industry expertise with advanced software engineering skills to productionize ML models, mentor junior engineers, and solve complex design automation challenges for the building engineering and construction industry.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Design and architect scalable solutions for complex problems in the BIM and design automation space, balancing technical excellence with business impact.
- Lead the development of new features and services that deliver data center design projects faster while maintaining high quality standards.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following software engineering best practices and establish coding standards for the team.
- Collaborate with applied scientists to productionize ML models for BIM and AECO applications, ensuring robust deployment and monitoring.
- Work closely with product, design, science, and AECO subject matter experts to deliver novel BIM and AI solutions.
- Design and implement integrations between BIM platforms (e.g., Autodesk Platform Services, Revit, etc.) and AWS services with a focus on reliability and scalability.
- Implement human-in-the-loop (HITL) workflows that combine engineering expertise with AI automation, ensuring AI systems augment rather than replace professional judgment.
- Drive technical discussions and build consensus on architectural decisions within your team and across partner teams.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
- Advocate for critical customers and stakeholders during team prioritization and planning, influencing roadmap decisions.
