Uncover Hiring Manager

Job Description

French Translator

We are hiring on behalf of a leading AI research lab to bring on a Legal Linguistic Expert – French. This is a part-time, highly flexible opportunity where you will contribute directly to improving AI systems by ensuring high-quality language coverage, absolute accuracy, and strict legal relevance for French as spoken in France.

As a Linguistic Expert, you will work closely with AI researchers and engineers to refine models’ understanding and generation of French legal material. Your expertise will ensure that AI outputs are grammatically correct, contextually relevant, and legally appropriate. This role blends your specialized linguistic knowledge with hands-on evaluation and feedback, helping shape the next generation of language AI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, evaluate, and meticulously annotate AI-generated text in French for accuracy, fluency, and legal alignment.
  • Provide expert human feedback on grammar, syntax, semantics, style, and tone.
  • Develop guidelines and documentation to improve consistency across AI model outputs.
  • Collaborate directly with researchers to identify language-specific challenges and edge cases within the French legal system.
  • Suggest structural improvements for training datasets and linguistic rules.

Requirements

  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in both English and French (Native-level proficiency in French is strictly required).
  • Linguistic Mastery: A strong, technical grasp of grammar, syntax, semantics, and stylistics, with the ability to identify and correct subtle linguistic and cultural nuances.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Translation, Law, or a closely related field (an advanced degree is a strong plus).
  • Experience: Prior experience in linguistic annotation, legal translation, or specialized content review is highly preferred.
  • Bonus Skills: Familiarity with AI, NLP (Natural Language Processing), or modern language technologies is a bonus, but not required.

Contract and Payment Terms

  • Status: You will be engaged as an Independent Contractor (1099 equivalent).
  • Flexibility: This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
  • Scope: Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on project needs and performance.
  • Privacy: Your work with us will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
  • Payments: Payments are disbursed weekly based on services rendered.

Please note: As this is an independent contractor engagement, we are unable to support H1-B or STEM OPT candidates at this time.

You will work on projects that focus on training and enhancing AI systems, collaborate with leading researchers, and help shape the next generation of AI in your area of expertise.
