Job Description

Job Overview: Medical Science Liaison, Rare Disease

The Regional Medical Science Liaison (MSL) at Syneos Health serves as the primary field-based point of contact with healthcare providers (HCPs), including clinical investigators, on a range of clinical and scientific issues. This vital role focuses on delivering and facilitating medical education, communications, research, and scientific insight gathering activities for the client. The MSL is responsible for providing scientific and medical data on both licensed and unlicensed products and indications, adhering to local laws and regulations. This position acts as the medical representative across a large, complex environment, with flexibility to support other countries as needed by the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain profound knowledge of cardiometabolic diseases and related areas, with specialized expertise in rare diseases such as Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS) and Severe Hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG), along with comprehensive client and competitor product knowledge.
  • Execute the medical and broader business strategy, ensuring activities are coordinated with the team and aligned with business objectives.
  • Serve as an external, credible scientific expert on disease areas and client products at HCP field meetings, key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings, and patient advocacy group meetings.
  • Facilitate clear communication between the client and investigators for both client trials and investigator-sponsored studies, addressing barriers to enrollment for pipeline assets.
  • Adhere to the highest ethical compliance, ethics, and safety standards, following all local regulations and laws.
  • Maintain and develop synergistic relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to expand research, advisory, and educational partnership opportunities.
  • Provide training to the Key Account Management Team on scientific and medical topics.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree: MD, PhD, or PharmD.
  • Demonstrable experience in an MSL function, preferably with cardiometabolic or rare disease experience, or expertise in endocrinology or lipidology.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical research design and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in cardiology.
  • Proven understanding of clinical research trial design and study analysis, including cost-effectiveness and other high-level Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) evidence approaches.
  • Ability to develop trust and maintain integrity with KOLs/External Clinical and Scientific Experts, investigators, HCPs, and institutions, as well as with peers.
  • Capability to convey complex scientific concepts and information, appropriately tailored to diverse audiences (e.g., affiliate staff, regional/global Medical Affairs leadership).
  • A good understanding of the Health Authorities in each country across the region would be advantageous.
