About the Underwriting Intern Role at Symetra
Symetra is seeking an Underwriting Intern for its Summer 2026 program. This entirely remote internship spans 12 weeks, from May 18 to August 7, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to real, meaningful projects that align with Symetra’s commitment to financial freedom for underserved communities.
Interns will receive necessary equipment to work comfortably from home and will be an integral part of the Symetra community, learning and collaborating in a virtual setting.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day operational support to the Underwriting Department.
- Perform administrative data entry within the department's systems.
- Engage in projects involving data tracking, data entry, and underwriting analysis.
- Conduct research related to insurance risk and pricing.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
Candidates should be current college students pursuing a degree in finance, marketing, business management, mathematics, or insurance. Key qualifications include:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong research and analytical capabilities.
- Willingness to collaborate and adapt in a fast-paced, solution-driven environment.
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Authorization & Identity Verification
Symetra does not provide employer work visa sponsorship for this role. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States and maintain this authorization throughout employment. Failure to comply with verification may result in disqualification or termination.
Remote Network Minimum Requirements
As a remote-first organization, Symetra requires employees to have a minimum internet speed of 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload. Permissible internet types include Fiber, Cable (e.g., Comcast, Spectrum), or DSL. Satellite, cellular broadband, or wired dial-up are not permitted. Applicants will be asked to test their internet speed.
