Investment Accounting and Reporting Advisor
As an Investment Accounting and Reporting Advisor at Symetra, you will play a pivotal role as a key individual contributor within Symetra’s Investment Accounting & Reporting team. This position demands technical accounting and reporting expertise across a diverse range of investment assets. You will work in close partnership with the Director to manage regulatory and reporting updates, offer guidance on complex transactions and new investment structures, ensure strict compliance with US GAAP and NAIC Statutory standards, and provide crucial insights on asset valuations and capital/RBC considerations. This role is ideal for a proactive, analytical professional who possesses strong technical knowledge and embraces a collaborative approach across the organization.
What You Will Do
- Research and provide practical guidance on accounting treatments for diverse asset types, including traditional investments, mortgage loans, private equity, alternative assets, derivatives, and new products or entity structures.
- Advise leadership on accounting implications of new investments and emerging guidance.
- Deliver transaction advisory support on the implementation of new accounting standards in collaboration with the Investment Accounting Policy Specialist.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to internal teams and stakeholders, including Enterprise and Financial Reporting, Investment Advisors, Tax, and Actuarial, by translating complex accounting concepts into actionable recommendations aligned with strategic objectives.
- Assess the impact of regulatory and accounting developments on Investment Accounting and Reporting processes and ensure policies remain appropriate and effectively implemented.
- Provide VIE and consolidation analysis on new limited partnership positions.
- Prepare, review, and present technical memos and documentation related to accounting treatments and transactions.
- Lead ad hoc projects, including the implementation of new accounting standards and other initiatives within Investment Accounting and Reporting.

Compensation
Salary Range: $113,700 - $189,400 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.
Who You Are
- High School Diploma is required. BA/BS in Accounting or Finance with 5+ years of experience in public accounting and/or financial services, including broad exposure to investment accounting.
- Strong technical accounting background, including advanced knowledge of US GAAP, working knowledge of NAIC Statutory accounting (IFRS a plus), and experience with technical accounting policy, advisory, or consulting; CPA or CPA-eligible preferred.
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and footnote disclosures, performing technical accounting research, and supporting accounting conclusions; VIE consolidation experience a plus.
- Proven ability to manage projects such as implementing new accounting standards, with familiarity in internal controls over financial reporting and related documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across business units and levels.
- Highly organized, self-directed, and adaptable professional with strong problem-solving skills and flexibility to meet deadlines during peak reporting periods.
