About the 2026 IT Security Analyst Internship at Symetra

We are seeking a highly motivated Security Analyst Intern to join our Information Security Team. This internship offers hands-on experience in identifying and mitigating security threats, monitoring networks, and supporting comprehensive cybersecurity initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for cybersecurity, meticulous attention to detail, and a strong analytical mindset.
Symetra's Summer 2026 Internship Program is entirely remote, ensuring all interns learn and work effectively in a virtual setting. The program spans 12 weeks, with possible durations from May 18 – August 7 or June 15 – September 4.
Potential Projects, Responsibilities, & Opportunities
- Monitor Security Systems: Assist in monitoring security tools, including SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, to detect and respond to threats.
- Threat Analysis and Investigation: With guidance from senior team members, analyze security alerts, investigate potential incidents, and escalate issues as needed.
- Vulnerability Assessment: Support vulnerability scans and penetration testing efforts to identify security vulnerabilities.
- Audit Support: Help manage responses from owners and remediation plans based on audit reports.
- Incident Response Support: Assist in documenting and responding to security incidents under the guidance of a senior analyst.
- Security Awareness and Compliance: Help develop cybersecurity training modules and ensure compliance with security policies.
Your Education, Experience, And Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of network security, firewalls, encryption, and security protocols.
- Experience with SIEM tools.
- Familiarity with ethical hacking, penetration testing, or security frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Compensation
The hourly compensation for this internship ranges from $22.00 to $25.00.
Work Authorization
Employer work visa sponsorship and support are not provided for this role. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at hire and must maintain authorization to work in the United States throughout their employment with Symetra.
Remote Network Minimum Requirements
As a remote-first organization, Symetra requires employees to meet specific internet connection standards to ensure a positive experience. Minimum internet speed must be 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload (FCC broadband definition). Acceptable internet types include Fiber, Cable (e.g., Comcast, Spectrum), or DSL. Satellite (e.g., Starlink), cellular broadband, other wireless technology, or wired dial-up are not permissible. Applicants will be asked to test and confirm their internet speed upon application.
