What We Need
The System Reliability Test Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and validating Symbotic’s automated robotic systems. This includes Inbound and Outbound Adapter cells, Vertical Lifts, conveyors, and autonomous bots. You will become the system expert of Symbotic’s automation, including repair/replacement of all mechanical, electrical/electronic, and pneumatic sub-systems. You will provide excellent service and support to Symbotic’s Commissioning, Testing, and Operations teams.
What We Do
As part of the Operations organization, the System Test Engineer leads preparation and readiness efforts, tasks, and testing to ensure the successful implementation of the SYM system at new customer sites. The Customer Site Deployment organization partners cross-functionally and directly with our customers to drive and execute onsite structural and systems deployments, in preparation for final acceptance of the Symbotic system.
What You’ll Do
- Perform inspections on systems associated with Automated Storage and Retrieval System of automated robotic vehicles and Automated Adapters/ Lifts.
- Support continuous operation by adjusting, calibrating, repairing, replacing, or modifying system components.
- Troubleshoot basic PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), run SQL queries, and execute test plans using Test Rail, Jira, SharePoint, or other collaboration methods.
- Communicate schedule-impacting problems and suggested actions, including approximate time required for corrective and emergency maintenance, to required team members.
- Ensure cleanup of equipment and removal of replaced parts from work areas after repairs are completed.
- Perform minor utility work such as machining holes, brackets; cutting steel; aligning sensors; attaching Unistrut; etc.
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, set up, and perform tool changes on Robotic arms.
- Maintain continuous cleaning and adhere to 5S policies.
- Ensure safety commitments in compliance with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer processes and procedures are met daily.
- Assist in training and onboarding of team members as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
- Associate degree or equivalent experience or certification in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or equivalent field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance of mechanical systems and experience in electro-mechanical systems highly preferred.
- Basic Excel and PowerPoint knowledge (Microsoft tools) for importing datasets, basic chart production, running Pivot Tables, and applying filters on data.
- Basic networking skills, such as understanding IP addresses, finding MAC addresses, pinging addresses, SSH into machines, etc.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills (reading CAD drawings, maintenance manuals, user manuals, etc.).
- Ability to work independently of a supervisor, following procedures and manuals.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and change course based on immediate business needs.
Our Environment
This is a remote, field-based position requiring travel up to 75% of the time. You must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive and/or fly to client and customer locations. You will be responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally for bi-weekly reimbursement. The role requires frequent walking and reaching with hands and arms. You will routinely work at heights up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches. The job involves standing; climbing or balancing; and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. You must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Compliance with all safety requirements and protocols, including Lock Out Tag Out and fall protection, is mandatory. Approximately 75% of your time will be spent on a construction site, requiring PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eyeglasses, ear protection, fall protection, e.g., safety harness). There will be steep stairs to climb into the structure, and you may be required to walk up and down them regularly to navigate the automation structure. You will regularly be near railings high off the ground. Subject to environmental conditions, including protection from weather but not necessarily temperature changes. You must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105°F to 32°F.

The base range for this position is $71,000.00 - $97,900.00. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO, and/or other benefits.
