Uncover Hiring Manager

Job Description

About the Opportunity

The organization is the largest network of tech newsletters globally, serving over 7 million subscribers across diverse fields like startups, software engineering, AI, cybersecurity, and product. Each newsletter is crafted by individuals actively working in tech. For instance, contributors to the crypto newsletter work at Coinbase, the dev newsletter is written by engineers from DeepMind and Meta, and the AI newsletter is authored by researchers from Anthropic and Adobe. This approach ensures the newsletters are the premier source for staying informed on critical developments in the tech industry.

Team and Growth

The team comprises 26 full-time professionals with backgrounds from leading media brands. The organization has experienced significant growth, doubling revenue between recent years and aiming for continued expansion. Advertisers seeking to connect with tech decision-makers, including major industry players, support this growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive high-priority initiatives end-to-end across various functions. This includes scoping deliverables, setting milestones, managing inter-team dependencies, and ensuring stakeholders adhere to timelines and quality standards.
  • Structure ambiguous problems into clear analyses and actionable plans. This involves building models, framing trade-offs, and delivering well-reasoned recommendations.
  • Assist in designing and executing the organization's operating cadences, including reporting cycles, planning processes, and review rhythms. Identify and address missing or failing processes by establishing lightweight systems before issues escalate.
  • Serve as a central point of communication between leadership, functional leads, and execution teams, ensuring outcomes are measurable and repeatable.
  • Maintain shared sources of truth by partnering with functional owners to investigate discrepancies, validate data definitions, and develop playbooks and institutional documentation to mitigate key-person risk.

What Success Looks Like

In the first 6 months, success will be demonstrated by:
  • Owning 2–3 cross-functional initiatives from initial scoping through to completion.
  • Building or improving at least one recurring operational cadence (e.g., planning cycle, metrics reporting, or review process) that is adopted and relied upon by the team.
  • Delivering an analysis that directly influences a significant strategic decision.
  • Earning trust as the go-to person for leadership when important tasks require high quality and rapid execution.
Key outcomes for measurement include:
  • Execution velocity and quality: Initiatives are completed on time, with analytically rigorous outputs that leadership acts upon with minimal rework.
  • Operational scalability: The cadences, documentation, and systems developed contribute to faster team alignment.

About You

  • Possess 5–7+ years of experience in business operations, finance, or management consulting, with a preference for at least 2 years in a cross-functional operations or chief-of-staff-type role at a high-growth company.
  • Have experience in a hyper-growth environment, where you have operated in situations where structure was being built rather than inherited.
  • Demonstrate analytical rigor, with a first-principles thinking approach. You are adept at building models, trackers, and analyses from scratch, rather than solely operating within existing frameworks. Advanced spreadsheet skills are a minimum requirement; SQL or BI tools are a plus.
  • Exhibit strong cross-functional operational capabilities, able to drive execution across teams without direct control and without creating friction.
  • Possess strong communication skills, translating complex analyses into clear, executive-ready written and verbal outputs.

Nice to haves

  • An MBA or equivalent analytical training.
  • Experience with CRM/RevOps systems such as HubSpot or Salesforce.
  • Exposure to media, advertising, or newsletter business models.
  • Proficiency in AI/automation for workflow optimization.

You’ll Thrive Here If You…

  • Identify problems worth solving and proactively begin working on them without waiting for direction.
  • Drive decisions forward rather than adding meetings and status updates.
  • Are energized by shipping results, not just providing advice.
  • Move fluidly across functional areas and enjoy diverse responsibilities.
  • Perform best in lean environments and enjoy building systems from the ground up.
  • Have experience in roles where you owned the output, not just the recommendation.

Why You'll Love It

  • Compensation: $180,000 - $230,000
  • Location: The organization is a 100% remote company distributed across the US and Canada.
  • Team Events: An annual team offsite is organized.
  • Time to Recharge: Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO). Most team members typically take 2-3 weeks off per year, in addition to holidays.
  • Health Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits are provided, with a 100% paid option.
  • 401(k) Plan: An Empower 401(k) plan is available.
  • Paid Parental Leave: Paid parental leave is offered.
  • Home Office Stipend: A stipend is provided for home office equipment, including a new monitor, headset, and chair.
  • Learning & Development Stipend: A stipend is available for continuous learning and development.
  • Autonomy and Agency: Contribute to the growth of one of the largest newsletters globally.
If you are ready to make a significant impact at a bootstrapped and profitable startup, please apply. Please inform us if you require any accommodation during the interview process.
