The Role of an IT Manager

Our client is seeking its first dedicated IT Manager to build and scale its internal IT function as the company targets growth toward 600+ employees globally. This critical role is responsible for ensuring fast and low-friction IT outcomes while simultaneously supporting organizational scalability and compliance objectives.

Currently, the company utilizes a third-party IT vendor for hands-on execution. This IT Manager will be accountable for overall outcomes, vendor management, process definition and evolution, and will serve as the internal point of contact for all IT matters as the company expands. This individual will report to the Head of People Operations, with a strong dotted line to the Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

IT Operations & End-User Experience
  • Own end-to-end IT operations, improving speed and consistency for onboarding, offboarding, laptop lifecycle management, access management, and device security.
  • Ensure reliable, scalable, and auditable IT processes as the company grows.
  • Foster a sense of urgency for IT issue resolution and serve as the primary escalation point for any friction.
  • Partner with People Operations and Engineering to guarantee seamless employee lifecycle support for the global and expanding workforce.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Security to administer laptop refresh cycles, software provisioning, patching, and endpoint security controls.
Vendor & Tooling Management
  • Manage relationships with IT vendor(s), encompassing performance management, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and cost-effectiveness.
  • Evaluate opportunities to optimize, replace, or bring capabilities in-house as the company scales.
  • Lead tooling decisions across identity management, endpoint management, and IT automation.
Security, Compliance & Audit Partnership
  • Work closely with Security and Engineering to ensure IT processes effectively support SOC 2, ISO, and future compliance requirements.
  • Implement controls practically, balancing risk mitigation with employee velocity.
  • Maintain audit-ready evidence for IT-owned controls and workflows.
  • Contribute to the evolution of guardrails, automation, and policies to ensure predictable audits.
Scaling with Intention
  • Apply best practices from high-growth environments thoughtfully.
  • Anticipate IT needs for a company of 600–1,000 employees.
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Influence without over-processing – understanding when structure is necessary and when flexibility is key.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience owning all IT operations across a business, with significant time spent in high-growth startup environments.
  • Proven experience owning IT outcomes while effectively working with third-party vendors or Managed Service Providers (MSPs).
  • Strong understanding of modern SaaS-based IT environments.
  • Working knowledge of security and compliance concepts.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and transforming it into clarity.
  • Strong judgment in balancing controls with operational speed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Rippling.
  • Experience supporting globally distributed teams.
  • Prior exposure to audits or compliance programs in fast-moving companies.
