About Swooped

Our client, Swooped, is transforming the live sports experience with the only end-to-end fan engagement platform built specifically for sports teams and venues. By focusing on aligned incentives between teams and fans, the platform unifies ticketing, merchandise, and game day operations, creating a smoother, more fan-friendly experience. Swooped's platform powers teams across the NBA, WNBA, and NWSL, helping them grow revenue and deliver innovative fan experiences. The team operates as a remote-first group, driven by core values: beginning and building with trust, playing like the underdog, winning as a team, and doing your thing. If you’re collaborative, adaptable, and eager to shape the future of live sports, this is the place for you.

About The Role

Swooped is seeking a high-agency Staff or Senior Accountant to bring accounting fully in-house and own the monthly close and core accounting operations end-to-end. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who has personally managed close processes, possesses a deep understanding of operational accounting, and can execute with minimal oversight. This individual will be responsible for driving discipline, accuracy, and reliability across close, revenue, billing, cash management, and reconciliations. This is an execution-focused role with clear ownership and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close: Lead and execute the monthly close process end-to-end, prepare journal entries, and complete all balance sheet reconciliations. Maintain organized, audit-ready support documentation to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Own revenue, billing, and cash workflows: Manage billing and revenue recognition processes. Reconcile Stripe activity, including cash and fee tracking. Handle customer billing inquiries and resolve discrepancies directly and professionally.
  • Oversee AP / AR operations: Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Oversee credit cards, reimbursements, and AP workflows through Ramp. Maintain strong cash controls and reconciliation discipline.
  • Support audit and reporting: Prepare monthly financial reporting packages. Support the annual audit and provide required documentation. Maintain and strengthen internal controls and documentation standards.
  • Improve systems and processes: Oversee QuickBooks, Stripe, and Ramp administration. Identify and implement process improvements that reduce manual work and increase control.

Required Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Ability to directly own a full monthly close process.
  • Strong reconciliation skills and operational accounting discipline.
  • Experience in SaaS, marketplace, or platform-based environments preferred.

Attributes for Success

  • Comfort communicating directly with customers regarding billing.
  • High reliability and strong sense of ownership.
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven execution style.
  • A strong desire to learn; holding oneself to a high standard and continually looking for ways to build skills.
  • Tenacity; enjoying working on challenges that others can’t or don’t want to tackle and not being afraid of failing fast to find better solutions.
  • Empathy; thriving in an environment where everyone can truly be themselves and understanding that diverse perspectives enrich the team and product.
  • Customer-centric mindset; understanding the problem to be solved and who it is being solved for.
  • Innovation; passion for exploring and implementing AI technologies to enhance automation, optimize workflows, and drive innovation.

Location

This is a fully remote role in the U.S., but must be able to work EST hours.

Benefits

  • Remote-first company.
  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Flex PTO policy.
  • 401(k).
  • Generous medical, dental and vision plans.
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers.
  • $1,000 reimbursement for work-from-home tech setup.
  • Company-paid sustainability subscription to ensure carbon neutrality is maintained for employee activities, such as travel.

Compensation

Compensation is a priority to ensure candidates and employees do not have to worry. The goal is to offer competitive salaries that are regularly benchmarked against the market. The core tenets of the compensation philosophy are fairness and transparency. A standardized leveling framework based on job scope and responsibilities has been established, meaning every person at a certain level is paid the same regardless of background, previous compensation, location, or any other factor.
