Cloud Native Security Engineer
Job Description
SUSE is seeking a skilled and motivated Security Engineer to join our Rancher Security Team.
The Rancher Security Team is in charge of enabling Engineering/Development teams to better understand and address risks and threats to our products; by providing tools, security policies and procedures, awareness, and technical ability to identify and fix these issues.
Our organization within SUSE is responsible for the Rancher product suite. We build open-source software that addresses the operational and security challenges of managing cloud native platforms like Kubernetes, while providing DevOps teams with integrated tools for running containerized workloads. Our flagship product SUSE Rancher has over 100 million downloads to-date and is managing mission critical services at Fortune 500 companies and many other organizations large and small around the world.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute security initiatives focused on enhancing the security of our Cloud Native products.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Kubernetes security, covering, but not limited to, the following areas: Penetration testing, System Hardening.
- Collaborate with development teams to integrate security into the software development lifecycle (SDLC), promoting a security by default culture.
- Collaborate with Product Management to define security requirements for new features and products.
- Conduct security audits and prepare reports for management and compliance purposes.
- Respond to security incidents, analyze breaches, and participate in incident response planning and execution.
- Develop, implement, and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Monitor security access and conduct security assessments, including penetration testing and vulnerability scanning.
- Provide security training and awareness to other employees.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends, threats, and technologies.
Education And Experience Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
- At least 3 years' security software engineering.
Knowledge And Skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster long-term relationships with internal and international teams, external partners, and candidates.
- Hands-on experience in hardening operating systems, containers, and cloud environments
- Extensive experience with Kubernetes, containers, and related cloud technologies
- Understanding of relevant industry and government security compliance frameworks
Bonus Qualifications
- Proven track record of successful penetration tests and vulnerability analysis
- Experience in defining and applying threat modeling methodologies to products
- Knowledgeable on Rancher Prime Suite
