Registered Nurse 1, Emergency Room
SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, a leading metropolitan medical center and the only academic medical center in Brooklyn, is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse 1 for its Emergency Room. Job Summary
The Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) is a key nursing position responsible for providing direct patient care in accordance with New York State law. This role involves independent patient care, supervision of nursing activities, and clinical guidance to other nursing staff and direct care providers. The position is full-time and operates within the Department of Nursing.
Illustrative Duties
- Develop and assist with nursing care plans aligned with patient treatment and medical needs.
- Administer medications, monitor patient conditions, and perform treatment procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient medical records and nursing care plans, documenting care, medications, reactions, and vital signs.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and revise patient care plans.
- Triage patients, assess symptoms, and refer to physicians or initiate remedial actions as appropriate.
- Assist physicians with treatment functions as directed.
- Provide health education and counseling to patients and families.
- Ensure compliance with infection control policies and procedures.
- Train paraprofessional staff on nursing techniques and equipment usage.
Required Qualifications
- A valid license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
- 1 year of relevant clinical experience.

Work Schedule
Variable Days; 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM (Full-Time)
Salary
SG-18: $103,814 - $125,138 Base Salary plus shift and/or inconvenience pay of $575 - $5,375, if applicable. Salary is based on years of experience and education.
