About the role
About The Company
General Motors (GM) is a global leader in the automotive industry, renowned for its innovation, quality, and commitment to shaping the future of mobility. With a rich history spanning over a century, GM has been at the forefront of automotive technology, sustainability initiatives, and customer-centric solutions. The company operates across multiple regions, delivering a diverse portfolio of vehicles, including electric, autonomous, and traditional combustion engine models. GM's mission is to create a world with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion, driven by cutting-edge research and development, strategic partnerships, and a dedicated team of professionals committed to excellence.
About The Role
The Staff Software Engineer – Developer Experience role is a pivotal position within GM's Developer Experience (DevEx) team. This team operates at the intersection of development tools, data analytics, and strategic business initiatives to enhance the software engineering environment across the organization. The primary focus of this role is on Developer Productivity & Insights, where the engineer will define metrics for engineering effectiveness, synthesize signals from various SDLC systems, and translate insights into actionable recommendations for senior leadership, including the CISO office. The role emphasizes influence rather than ownership, shaping metrics strategies, defining best practices, and evaluating AI's impact on developer workflows. As GM transitions toward an AI-native engineering organization, this role will be instrumental in designing automation, golden paths, and AI-driven solutions that streamline workflows, reduce friction, and elevate developer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will lead initiatives that foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence, mentoring engineers and driving organizational change through strategic influence.
Qualifications
General Motors is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. We promote a workplace that encourages innovation, integrity, and respect for everyone.
