We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Platform Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of the university’s infrastructure by leading modernization efforts across cloud and on-premises platforms. You will have significant ownership and autonomy in designing, implementing, and supporting complex enterprise technology environments that serve students, faculty, researchers, and staff. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior engineers and leadership to evaluate emerging technologies, solve complex technical challenges, and define strategic initiatives that enhance the university’s technological capabilities. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the university’s cloud strategy, reduce technical debt, and improve automation across multiple campuses, ultimately supporting the institution’s mission of academic excellence and innovation.Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Minimum of four years of advanced experience designing and supporting enterprise infrastructure in cloud, on-premises, or hybrid environments.
- Approximately 10 or more years of professional experience in enterprise technology environments.
- Proven track record of independently designing, implementing, and supporting complex IT solutions.
- Experience with cloud services, VMware, NetApp, Active Directory, automation platforms, and enterprise applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical strategy at a senior level.
Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to modernize the university’s cloud and on-premises infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency.
- Reduce technical debt by identifying areas for improvement and implementing automation to streamline operations.
- Drive strategic technology initiatives across multiple campuses, aligning IT solutions with institutional goals.
- Own and support critical solutions with a high degree of autonomy, ensuring reliable operation and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers and leadership to evaluate new technologies, develop roadmaps, and define platform engineering strategies.
- Support a broad spectrum of technologies including cloud platforms, virtualization, storage solutions, directory services, and enterprise applications.
- Maintain documentation, perform troubleshooting, and implement best practices for enterprise infrastructure management.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions that enhance university operations.
