About The Role
Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our team supporting the CDC Data Modernization Initiative. This role is pivotal in advancing CDC's data modernization, analytics, and cloud-based data management efforts. The successful candidate will provide hands-on technical expertise in developing, migrating, testing, validating, and maintaining analytical workflows that underpin surveillance, research, reporting, and operational activities. The Data Engineer will collaborate closely with architects, analysts, and stakeholders to support modernization objectives, ensuring scalable and efficient data pipelines and integration solutions. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, software development, or cloud-based data management
- Strong proficiency in SQL
- Hands-on experience with Python, R, SAS, PySpark, or comparable technologies
- Proven experience developing ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance
- Experience supporting CDC, HHS, or public health data systems (preferred)
- Experience supporting SAS-to-Python, SAS-to-R, or similar modernization initiatives (preferred)
- Familiarity with EDAV platforms such as Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Delta Lake, R Studio, PowerBI, Tableau (preferred)
- Experience with cloud platforms like Azure SQL, Azure DevOps, or Palantir Foundry (preferred)
- Knowledge of migration from SAS to other analytics solutions such as R, Python, or Databricks (preferred)
- Understanding of dual-run validation, equivalency testing, and controlled migration approaches (preferred)
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud deployment practices (preferred)
- Certifications such as Databricks Data Engineer Associate/Professional or Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) are advantageous
- Master's degree is preferred
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and integration solutions to support data modernization initiatives
- Support the migration and modernization of SAS-based analytics and reporting workflows to cloud platforms
- Develop robust ETL/ELT processes and cloud-based data engineering solutions to facilitate data ingestion, transformation, and delivery
- Implement automated testing, validation, and monitoring processes to ensure data quality and workflow reliability
- Support data ingestion, transformation, and delivery across multiple analytical environments to meet operational needs
- Create reusable code, technical documentation, and deployment procedures to streamline workflows and facilitate maintenance
- Collaborate with architects, analysts, and program stakeholders to align data engineering efforts with modernization objectives
- Participate in migration planning, execution, and validation activities, including dual-run validation and controlled migration approaches
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and industry best practices to continually improve data engineering solutions
