About The Role
As a Staff Data Platform Engineer at BetterUp, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, enterprise-grade data systems that directly influence the company's AI-driven products and services. Your expertise will enable the organization to harness data effectively, supporting analytics, machine learning, and AI initiatives. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including data scientists, engineers, and product managers—to create a robust data infrastructure that ensures secure, reliable, and efficient data flow. Qualifications
BetterUp promotes a hybrid work model, valuing in-person collaboration at designated hubs in Austin, TX; New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; and Arlington, VA. Employees are expected to work from their local office at least two days per week, with travel requirements up to 25% for client engagements. Fully remote candidates are also welcomed, with travel up to 50% for internal and client-related activities. Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in data platform engineering, data infrastructure, or related technical roles
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python
- Operational maturity with experience in CI/CD systems, Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, monitoring, and distributed systems
- Experience building and maintaining analytics stacks such as Snowflake, dbt, and Looker
- Proficiency in running GenAI and ML systems in production, including MLOps tooling, vector search, embedding stores, and feature engineering at scale
- Architectural expertise in data systems, including Airflow, Kafka, and general system design
- Knowledge of security, privacy, and governance best practices in data management
- Experience evaluating and adopting emerging AI and data tooling
- Architect, develop, and maintain scalable data systems that deliver value to end-users
- Centralize and standardize data collection, transformation, analysis, storage, and serving processes
- Support ML/GenAI teams by providing platform capabilities for data delivery, processing, and infrastructure
- Assist reporting and analytics teams in generating business insights for internal and customer-facing purposes
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends within the evolving data and AI ecosystem
- Manage operational aspects of data infrastructure, including vendor relationships, tooling, and processes
- Set technical standards and best practices for data infrastructure, AI workflows, and engineering processes
- Mentor and influence engineers across the organization on data architecture and AI-augmented engineering practices
- Evaluate new AI and data tools, driving their adoption to enhance platform capabilities
