About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer, Backend, to join our growing team and contribute significantly to the development, optimization, and scaling of our core data infrastructure. This pivotal role requires deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), data engineering, Change Data Capture (CDC), ETL processes, data governance, and streaming technologies. As a key member of our technical team, you will collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to ensure seamless data ingestion, processing, and accessibility across the organization. Your work will directly influence the quality, reliability, and security of our data systems, supporting critical analytics, product development, compliance, and experimentation initiatives. This role demands a hands-on architect who can balance speed with excellence and pragmatism, driving the long-term architectural vision while delivering immediate value. Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on scalable data architectures
- Strong expertise in GCP services including IAM, GCS, Pub/Sub, and related tools
- Hands-on experience with Spark and Databricks for large-scale data processing
- Proficiency with Change Data Capture (CDC) technologies such as Fivetran or equivalent solutions
- Deep knowledge of ETL/ELT frameworks and tools like dbt, Apache Airflow, Dataform
- Understanding of data governance principles, including security, compliance, auditability, and data lineage
- Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams such as product, analytics, engineering, and clinical
- Proficiency in SQL and Python for data processing, automation, and scripting
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Design, develop, and scale core data infrastructure leveraging GCP, Spark, Databricks, and Fivetran
- Create and maintain reliable ETL/ELT workflows to support diverse data needs across the organization
- Implement and manage Change Data Capture (CDC) pipelines to enable real-time data replication and synchronization
- Establish and enforce data governance standards, including access control, auditability, and metadata management
- Build and oversee streaming and batch data pipelines to support analytics, product development, compliance, and experimentation
- Act as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams to ensure data is accessible, trustworthy, and impactful
- Drive the long-term architectural vision of the data platform, aligning with current and future business requirements
- Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of best practices, innovation, and continuous learning
