About The Role

As a Backend Engineer at Whippy, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining the core infrastructure that powers our AI-driven communication platform. Your responsibilities will include designing highly scalable and intuitive APIs that facilitate rapid deployment of new products and services. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, translate ideas into technical solutions, and ensure seamless implementation and deployment. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating comprehensive Engineering Requirement Documents that guide the development process from conception to launch and post-launch evaluation. Building robust test suites to maintain product performance and reliability will be a key part of your role, as well as integrating product analytics to measure the success of new features. Past projects by backend engineers at Whippy have included developing a public API and webhook interface capable of processing hundreds of millions of messages, creating a query language on top of Postgres and OpenSearch, and building a production URL shortening service with support for custom domains. Your contributions will directly impact the scalability, reliability, and innovation of our platform, ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional value to our clients.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of web API architecture and design principles
• Experience in developing high-quality, well-documented APIs
• Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Node.js, or Java
• Experience with database systems like Postgres and OpenSearch
• Knowledge of building scalable microservices and serverless architectures
• Familiarity with API security best practices
• Experience with version control systems such as Git
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable APIs and backend services
• Create detailed Engineering Requirement Documents to guide development from idea to deployment
• Build and maintain test suites to ensure product reliability and performance
• Integrate product analytics to monitor feature success and inform future improvements
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend developers, and data teams to deliver seamless solutions
• Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Contribute to the development of new features, tools, and integrations that enhance platform capabilities

• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues proactively
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and incorporate relevant innovations into the platform
