About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Backend Engineer to join our Grafana Enterprise team remotely in the US or Canada. In this role, you will focus on developing Go-based services that power Grafana’s enterprise offerings, supporting large-scale operators and cloud providers. You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining distributed backend systems that ensure high performance, reliability, and security. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to deliver scalable, multi-tenant solutions trusted by some of the world's most demanding organizations. As a key member of our remote-first team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, frontend engineers, and enterprise customers, to shape the future of observability and data accessibility at scale.
Qualifications
- Deep professional experience in building production-grade backend services in Go
- Strong understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including replication, fault tolerance, and consistency models
- Experience designing and operating large-scale, high-traffic, high-availability, and multi-tenant systems
- Proficiency in building and consuming gRPC/protobuf APIs and designing clean service contracts
- Solid database skills with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL, including schema design and query optimization
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, build tooling, and continuous delivery at scale
- Familiarity with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and containerized deployment patterns
- Experience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, structured logging, and distributed tracing
- Knowledge of dependency injection patterns and modular service architecture
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote environment
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services in Go that support Grafana’s enterprise features
- Lead projects from ideation through development, testing, and production deployment
- Collaborate with product, UX, and frontend teams to deliver comprehensive, end-to-end solutions
- Drive improvements in system scalability, reliability, security, and multi-tenancy for large-scale operators
- Engage directly with enterprise customers to understand their requirements and translate them into robust engineering solutions
- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the operational health and stability of the platform
- Mentor and develop engineering team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence
- Contribute to the evolution of engineering practices and operational procedures across Grafana Labs
