Job Summary

The Studio Museum in Harlem seeks an experienced and detail-oriented Digital Asset Management Specialist for a 12-month contracted, part time role (20-25 hours/week). This role focuses on addressing a sizable asset backlog, establishing ingestion and tagging plans, reinstating public access to archival materials, and creating a digital asset preservation policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Backlog & Cleanup: Analyze and compare 52TB of image and video assets, plan ingestion of 2TB into NetX, and create a finding aid for video assets.
  • Asset Management: Organize digital collections including photographs, audiovisual recordings, videos, and artwork, ensuring proper cataloging and metadata (captions, rights, keywords, persons, and artworks).
  • Public Portal: Oversee NetX portal updates, liaise with NetX representatives, implement closed captions, linked transcripts, and backup files for video assets while maintaining tagging systems including Google Vision.
  • Digital Preservation Policy: Collaborate with internal teams to develop and document best practices and workflows for digital asset preservation and future management.
  • Support and Training: Assist staff with asset uploads, provide guidelines for accessibility, and support NetX staff orientation.

Skills and Qualifications

Proficiency with NetX; understanding of metadata standards and digital image file parameters according to museum best practices; experience with TMS is a plus; aptitude in database management, media cataloging, records preservation, digital rights management, and data migration; familiarity with digital asset management best practices; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment; demonstrated experience with digital archiving solutions.

Education and Experience

3-5 years in digital asset management. Background in Archival Studies, Library Science, History, or a related field is preferred but not required. Strong organizational and project management skills.

Work Environment and Compensation

Fast-paced, project-based environment. This is a grant-funded, project-based role with competitive benefits including medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, a retirement account, and substantial vacation time. Compensation is hourly ($45-$50) commensurate with experience.
